Encounters is an ongoing body of work that I started to make when I moved back home, to Staten Island, in 2016.

Ultimately about a love of place, with all the multi-layered complexity those words can generate, my homecoming has been both a rediscovery and discovery, of place and of self.

The photographs are predicated on chance encounters. What I seek is a kind of magic that can exist in ordinary daily living.

At times feeling like the mores of  this place can easily be misconstrued and oversimplified, I find myself looking for the subtle ways in which people reveal themselves. This work is not meant to be definitive in its representation of this oft-overlooked place, yet I hope to both broaden and deepen one’s sense of it, including my own.
